AN APOLOGY
Dear Parents,
I want to apologize for the poor communication regarding our school closing last week. I had hoped to separate our closing from that of Tulsa Public Schools, but it did not work. The announcements on the TV and radio stations did not get broadcast in a timely manner. Our ability to communicate via email and our web site is difficult to accomplish from home, so that is not a speedy alternative. For the remainder of the year we will follow the rule listed in the handbook: “If Tulsa Public Schools are closed for bad weather, we will be closed also.” We will continue to put our school closing information on TV channels 2, 6, & 8, and on radio stations 740KRMG and 1170KFAQ. We did discover that the stations had ACA listed as “closed” on their various web sites approximately 20-30 minutes before we were added to the list being broadcast. Again my sincere apologies for the mix up last week. We are working to make our communication better for all of our students and families, full-time and part-time. I also would like to thank the teachers and parents who were at the school last Thursday morning for their help is getting parents notified and students back home.

The students who are going on the Junior/Senior trip to the Eastern Seaboard will be hosting a Family Game Night THIS Friday, January 15th, at 7:00 p.m. as a fundraiser for their trip in March. Plan to come and spend a fun evening together! There will be games available for every age group, including the little ones under age 5! We will have face painting as well as group games. YOU may win a gift card in the drawing! The students will have meal ticket cards for sale as well. Admission: age 11 and up $3, age 10 and under $1, family maximum $12. Concessions will be available.
NEW ATTENDANCE POLICY FOR SECONDARY STUDENTS
ACA understands that occasionally a student may have to miss class. We do our best through the use of yellow absentee slips and the test make up folder to help students make up work when they have had to miss. ACA is not, however, a correspondence school. Much of the value gained in a classical education comes from class discussion and the interaction among students and their teacher. Therefore, we want to encourage students to avoid unnecessary and excessive absences. For this reason we have made two changes in the school attendance policy that you can see HERE. These polices will be implemented immediately and will appear in the new student handbook for next year. Parents, please discuss this policy change with your secondary students so that everyone understands the new policies. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Post in the school office.
WINTER COURT
ACA’s annual formal event for high school students, Winter Court, will be held on Friday, January 29th. Tickets are $20 per student and go on sale tomorrow in the school office. This is a formal event – please check the student handbook for guidelines on dress. Girls who are attending must bring their dress (or a picture of themselves in their dress) to the school office for approval. Winter Court will be different this year than in years past due to the number of high school students. We will not be serving a “sit down dinner” but instead will offer hor d’oeuvres and beverages in addition to the entertainment. High school students will not want to miss this exciting event!
