ACA SAYS GOOD-BYE TO TWO STAFF MEMBERS

After several years of teaching science and mathematics and serving as the sponsor of Falcon House, Mrs. Jennifer Oard is leaving ACA. Mrs. Oard has in her time here shown much creativity and a great concern for her students. We will miss her energy, dedication and laughter, and we know she will continue to touch lives where ever she goes. Mrs. Oard is pursuing a career in nursing and hopes to enter the nursing program in the fall. We pray God’s richest blessings on her and hope she will be coming to visit us to share what God is doing in her life.

Miss Deborah Phillips, for two years teacher of our 3rd & 4th grade students and this last year principal of the Grammar School, has resigned. She is planning to return to Virginia to be near her family there. We pray God’s blessings on her as she follows Him in her life. We thank Miss Phillips for her hard work in organizing the elementary program and adding excitement in the areas of science and field trips.

“WONDER AND DELIGHT”

The administration and Board of Governors want to make sure elementary students are best prepared for the secondary years, and they are beginning that process by restructuring the administration. Instead of dividing the students into three schools with separate principals, we are going to have one principal, Mr. Kirk Post, and one assistant principal, Mrs. Lorretta Miller, over all grades, K4-12. Both of these staff members have been with ACA since the beginning and have extensive experience in education. Mr. Post began his career in elementary education and has served as a principal of schools offering grades kindergarten through high school for most of his 30+ years of teaching. Mrs. Miller has taught several different grades, home-schooled her own children, and has served as junior high principal at ACA for many years. Both feel that this sharing of responsibility will encourage a consistent program that communicates across the traditional grade boundaries.

When we began to add elementary grades to the school years ago, a motto was adopted for the School of Grammar, “Admiratio et Delectatio” (Wonder and Delight). It reflects our belief that in the elementary years the natural wonder in God’s creation and delight in discovering something new should be given many opportunities for expression. A classical school, while dedicated to giving students a strong academic foundation, also recognizes the differences in skill and interest levels according to age, and desires to work with children naturally as God has made them. We look forward to working with teachers and parents to see continued success for our students, God’s blessings on the school, and more opportunities to see that wonder and delight in the eyes of our children.

THANK YOU

A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped with our Americana Festival. We could not have done it without our parent volunteers who helped gather silent auction items, decorate classrooms, set up displays, etc. We really appreciate everyone who attended and bid on the auction items and made the day such a success. Go to the article on the Americana Festival to see pictures from the festival.
