In Medieval times Christians would gather together and reenact the stories of the Bible, hence retelling stories from scripture through plays, acting out around 40 at a time. On October 30th, Mrs. Redden’s Performing Arts class did something similar, retelling a few major stories of the Bible through four short plays. The 28 students, with great enthusiasm and animation, reenacted the stories of Adam and Eve, Noah’s Ark, the Birth of Christ, Jesus’ Feeding of the 5,000, and Jesus’ Crucifixion and Resurrection.
Many of the students added their own modern touch, making the stories more relatable to the audience: Sharpies replaced francinsense, basketballs were babies, and cosumes were made of curtain. They oinked as pigs, danced as angels, and wept as childless mothers. Even though most of the plays received belting-laughs from the students, other plays, such as the Crucifixion of Jesus, were extremely serious and moving. The students did a great job, whether they were reading straight from the Bible or rapping their way through the Resurrection of Christ, everyone earned a laugh and applause.
