Augustine Christian Academy students were among hundreds of people who visited the Cherokee Heritage Center during their Ancient Cherokee Days on October 13 and 14. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders traveled back in time, visiting a 1500s ancient Cherokee Village where they participated in cultural activities such as blowgun shooting, stickball, chunkey, Cherokee language, Southeastern art projects, and storytelling. In addition, they toured a frontier home and school house, which are two of several buildings in Adams Corner Rural Village. The museum took them on the journey of the Trail of Tears and let them see up close the reality of the Native American tragedy. Not only did the Ancient Cherokee Days provide an excellent venue for education, but the children had so much fun they didn’t know they were learning!
