The K4, K5, and 1st grade classes at Augustine Christian Academy have been learning about Community Helpers as part of their social studies curriculum. They have been visited by a pastor, a nurse, and a policeman, and they took a field trip to a nearby fire station. The students enjoyed their classroom visitors a lot, especially when they were able to hold the handcuffs, hear their friends’ heartbeat, and see inside the police car. At the fire station the students had the opportunity to sit in a fire truck, spray the fire hose, and see how the firemen dress when fighting fires. Teachers, Mrs. Schwenk and Miss Main, are planning more field trips and classroom visitors as their study of Community Helpers continues this fall.
