On Friday, September 16, Mr. Post called the four houses together during house time in order to play a new kind of Olympics: Balloon Olympics. The first game involved 6 members from each house, requiring them to tie balloons around their ankles. When Mr. Post blew the whistle, all 24 house members went wild as each viciously stomped their feet, trying desperately to pop their oppenents’ balloons. After the second blow of the whistle, each house member, still having a balloon attached to them stopped, and breathing heavily, walked back to their house’s designated corner. When Mr. Post counted those left, Pegasus house came out on top, having lost one of their members.
The next challenge entailed a balloon, a net, and team spirit, a.k.a patience; this was a rousing, tedious game of balloon volleyball. As the students figured out who to put out on the court, Falcon house excitingly assembled themselves into a circle and filled the great room with their signature cheer, “Don’t Stop! Get it Get it!”. This, along with excellent team work propelled Falcon to two victories, first beating Dragon house 5-2 and then Pegasus house in the championship 5-1.
The last competition was a team-building relay. Each house chose 12 members to lay down on their backs in a line and pass a balloon from one end of the line to the other, here’s the twist, no hands aloud! It was an exciting relay; Pegasus jumped out to an early lead but Dragon slowly gained ground, ending with Dragon dominating. Their whole house was full of energy for the rest of the day. All three events were very exciting and fun to watch, and were a great relief from the everyday class routines. The houses really enjoyed themselves as they worked to together in the first ACA, “Balloon Olympics.”
