PERFORMING ARTS BUILDING REMODEL

The city of Tulsa has approved our building permit to proceed with our renovation/remodel of the Performing Arts Building. We’ve only had a few parents volunteer to help so far, so please consider helping us if you can. We will be starting at 8:00 a.m. this Saturday, July 28th, and again on Saturday, August 4th. (The Sunday work day has been cancelled.) Phase 1 this week is to demo a few walls, build a few walls, and hang a lot of sheet rock. So bring screw guns and you will be trained on what to do. It’s a great time to meet other people and save the school lots of money.

Depending on what gets done through the week, Phase 2 on August 4th will include many more specific handy man small jobs. If things are ready, painting the walls may be included.

SCHOOL WORK DAY

We are having a Work Day on Saturday, August 4th, to get the building ready for school to begin! If you are not able to help with the remodel in the Performing Arts Building, please consider coming to help in other ways on Work Day. Some of the things we need to accomplish are: washing the lunch room tables & chairs, sweeping & mopping the risers in the Great Room, wiping down the classroom tables & desks, and general clean up of the grounds. We will start early so we won’t have to work during the hottest part of the day, so plan to volunteer a couple of hours beginning at 8:00 a.m. on August 4th. All parents and high school age students are welcome!

PARENT ORIENTATION

This year we have two nights of Parent Orientation from which you can choose – Tuesday, August 7th, or Thursday, August 9th. Both evenings we will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Great Room. We will be going over lots of information pertaining to the coming school year, so parents should make every effort to attend. *Students are not required to attend the Parent Orientation *since they will have their own orientation the first day of school.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

The first day of school will be Monday, August 13th. This will be a half day, 8:00 a.m. to noon. Students should wear regular uniforms, not High Convocation uniforms. Elementary classes will go over classroom rules, distribute books, and play some “get acquainted” games. For secondary students, basic school rules will be discussed, teachers introduced, Houses will meet together, planners will be distributed, lockers will be assigned, and yearbooks from last year will be distributed (to those who ordered one). After school care will not be available the first day of school. Student Orientation Day is for ALL students, full time and part time.

NEW LIFE RANCH

August 23rd – 24th. It is very important for every student in grades 6 – 12, full time & part time, to attend Charger Round Table. This event builds community among the students and sets the tone for the school year. The cost this year will remain at $90 per student, which covers transportation, overnight lodging, four meals, and activities. Permission slips will be available at Parent Orientation and on the first day of school.

PERFORMING ARTS NEWS

Calling all ACA high school students! The audition workshop for the fall production of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” will be held after school on Friday, August 17th, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Auditions will be held on August 19th & 20th after school. ALL high school students are welcome to participate in this production! We will also need set builders & painters, stage crew, and sound & lighting techs for the production; so if your student doesn’t want to be “on stage” there are still several ways to be involved!

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

When you are out shopping for school supplies for your students, please consider picking up a package of copy paper, some dry erase markers, and a box of tissues for the school office. These are the items we continually use during the school year and your donation of some of these would be a tremendous help to us.

HELP NEEDED

We have an abundance of Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s Soup labels in the office and we are looking for someone to organize these and submit them for us. These ongoing fundraisers help us get classroom supplies! If you have some extra time and would be interested in helping us with this, please email Becki at: [email protected]

HELLO DOLLY DVD’S

If you ordered a “Hello Dolly!” dvd, those are available in the school office for pick up. If you didn’t order one, it’s not too late! The cost is $25 and you can order in the school office or by calling 918-832-4600.
