SINGING VALENTINES!

Send your love in a song! The amazingly talented ACA Ladies Show Choir will be doing Singing Valentines again this year! For as little as $25 the Show Choir will: serenade your loved one, present a personalized card, & deliver a rose. “Phone-a-Gram” Singing Valentines are also available for your loved ones who live outside the Tulsa area. A Singing Valentine is a unique and memorable Valentine gift for the one you love – young or old! SINGING VALENTINES MUST BE ORDERED BY THURSDAY, FEB. 13TH. VALENTINE STORE

The Performing Arts Booster Club has their VALENTINE STORE open this week through February 14, in the school foyer. Don’t forget to stop by and order a treat to be delivered to your student on Valentine’s Day. Items start at $1.00, so send something to your favorite staff members, teachers, and friends as well! Students are welcome to shop for their parents and siblings too! They have gifts suitable for your grown-up Valentines, so please support the arts at Augustine Christian Academy, and get your Valentine shopping done at ACA!

SPRING PORTRAITS

Our Spring Portrait Day is coming soon – February 14th! Students may dress in an outfit of their choice for their spring portrait. All clothing selections must adhere to the spirit of the Dress Code (length, fitting, etc.). If they are wearing jeans, they must not be form fitting or torn.

Students having their picture taken are not required to wear their uniform to school, however, secondary students need to bring their uniform to change into immediately after having their portrait taken. Grammar School students may remain in their portrait clothes for the rest of day, eliminating the need for our younger students to change back into their uniform.

CONGRATULATIONS!

In December, three of our students participated in the National Classical Etymology Exam, an online, 50-question test based on English words derived from Latin and Greek, with emphasis on academic vocabulary and SAT vocabulary.

There were three divisions of competition: Novice for 8th grade and under, Intermediate for 9th and 10th grade, and Advanced for 11th and 12th grade. Within each division were three awards: gold, silver, and bronze. Each award was calculated from the result of the national percentiles. The National Junior Classical League committee commented that this year’s competition was “extremely fierce.”

WINTER WEATHER POLICY CHANGE

Tulsa Public Schools has used up all of their snow days and may be hesitant to cancel school for weather knowing that they would have to make up those days. Because our ACA families drive in from Owasso, Skiatook, Jenks, Broken Arrow, and other suburban areas, we are concerned that there may be days that ACA would choose to close and TPS does not close.

Therefore, for the remainder of this school year, ACA will not necessarily be open if Tulsa Public Schools are open when the weather is bad. If we get winter weather, please watch Channels 2, 6, & 23 for Augustine Christian Academy to close or delay opening. Our administration will make that determination as early as possible and it will be announced on those channels. We will also make every attempt to send out an email and put it on Facebook.

JR. HIGH SCIENCE FIELD TRIP

The College of Engineering and Natural Sciences at the University of Tulsa is hosting a Middle School Open House on Thursday, February 20, 2014. The departments and organizations in the College will have experiments and demonstrations aimed at interesting middle school students in careers in engineering and science.

We would like to encourage ALL our junior high students to attend, regardless if they have class on Thursdays or not. We will meet in the Great Room at 12:50pm to load the bus for our 1:00pm departure. The students will miss all of 3rd hour and will return to the school by 3:00. Regular school dress code will be in effect.

Permission slips have been sent home with students, but if your student did not get one they should ask Mrs. Morgan or Miss Rogers for one. Students should return their permission slips to Mrs. Morgan or Miss Rogers by Wednesday, February 19, along with the $3 transportation fee.

We would like to have a few more adults accompanying us on this field trip, so if you would like to volunteer, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Morgan at (918) 638-7799.

PABC CHOCOLATE BAR SALES

The Performing Arts Booster Club fundraiser is underway! Each PABC family is asked to sell at least one box of 60 candy bars. If your student was in “It’s a Wonderful Life” or is in “Schoolhouse Rock”, you are a PABC family! Boxes may be checked out from the office anytime.

Each box of 60 candy bars is a variety box containing five different types of chocolate bars and each one sells for only $1.00. There are prizes for the top sellers and your family may check out more than one box. Proceeds are due back to the school office by Friday, February 21. When returning payment for the chocolate bars, please bring a check to the school instead of cash!

REMINDER TO SENIORS!

Seniors who are ordering graduation announcements through ACA must submit a digital copy of their photo to the school office by Friday, March 14th. Please email photo to [email protected] using the largest format possible. Announcements do not need to be paid for until you pick them up in April. Costs are: 25 for $17.50, 50 for $27.50, 75 for $34.50, and 100 for $42.50.

The graduation fee of $100 is due by May 2nd, and the cap & gown cost of $30 is due when picking those up in May.

BOXTOPS & CAMPBELLS LABELS

If you have been saving up your General Mills Boxtops or your Campbells Labels, please bring them to the school office! ACA can redeem the Boxtops for cash and the Labels for classroom supplies. This is an ongoing fundraiser for ACA with submissions made in the fall and again in the spring. Thanks for participating with us!
