This is the time of year when parents of seniors are applying for financial aid and scholarships. Do not be deceived by a call, even to your cell phone by someone stating they are from the US Government and want to give you money for college expenses. One of our parents received this call within weeks of filling out Government financial aid forms. This is a scam to get your bank account number and clear out your money. A number might show up on your caller ID, but if you call the number it is not in service. A suggestion to foil any scammer is ask upfront what number you can call them right back at to verify the call. They will always immediately hang up. Legitimate scholarship opportunities will not ask for your bank account or credit card numbers.
