New 2013-14 School Year Brings Challenges and Excitement

The halls at ACA are popping with excitement and energy as faculty, administration, and staff prepare for the first day of school on Monday, August 12th at 8AM. Everyone can sense that this year will be a good one.

The Grammar School has a new principal, Dr. Malcolm McQuire, and his experience and enthusiasm is already paying off. He’s implemented the Spalding integrated language arts curricula through the 5th grade, and all Grammar School teachers spent two weeks of their summer in training.

Mr. Ahrens, our new Director of Operations, has overseen some significant changes to the campus. The kindergarten room has grown to accommodate an incoming class of nine K-4 students and nine K-5 students (for a total of 18), and the first and second grade classes have new paint, flooring, and re-configured space, too, totally changing the K-2nd grade corridor.

Mr. Post has been changing things up for Dialectic and Rhetoric students, too, with new teachers, new classes, and new students since enrollment is at an all time high. He’s transformed some of the duties in the Four Royal Houses, more technology is on order from Apple, and innovative curricula changes are around every corner.

The 2013-2014 school year is as promising as a blank school planner–full of potential “teachable moments,” bonding times, lunch-time laughs, and memories-to-be-made. We approach this year with thanksgiving for how God has already blessed and a palpable excitement to see what He will continue to do!
