The Charger Newsletter

The Junior High trip to Nashville was wonderful and the students had a great time! A BIG THANK YOU to the parent drivers/chaperones who went: Mr. Wilsterman, Mr. Duncan, Mr. Perryman, Mrs. Conroy, and Ms. Williams! Also, thank you to all the parents and friends who were praying for our travelers on Sunday as they were driving through the storms in Arkansas on their way home!

Come join us this Friday Night at our last Little Theatre. We GUARANTEE you will thoroughly be entertained with the Broadway music presented by Show Choir and Vocal Express, AND introducing our young thespians, our 5th grade class as they sing excerpts from the musical Oklahoma! In addition, our band will play a few numbers!

PULLED PORK SANDWICHES – Concessions will be open at 6:30 p.m. and will be selling homemade Pulled Pork Sandwiches, potato salad or chips, and a pickle wedge for only $4. They will also be selling Drinks, Water, and Popcorn for $1. Come early as the early bird gets the sandwiches! When they are gone, they are gone!

DRUM ROLL PLEASE … And next year’s musicals are … Another reason to come out to Little Theatre on Friday is that next year’s Jr. and Sr. musicals will be announced! Mrs. Post says: “I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised!” ☺

The monthly lunch order form for May is attached below and is available in the school office. It includes May 5th – 13th. Students ordering for the month should turn in their order form and money by Friday, May 2nd.

Yes, we have summer theatre!
This is our second year to host a community theatre. If you are in grades 1-8 now (going into grades 2-9 in the fall) you are invited to join the Jungle party. Summer theatre is also open to students outside of ACA so invite your friends. Dates of camp are June 9-13, and will be directed by Gale Post and Choreographed by Dawn Redden.
There is a Meet and Greet on Sat, May 17th, from 9-11 (for campers) and 11-12 for parents. During the meet and greet, students will meet the Directors and the Interns. They will also be taught a few measures of one of the songs in the musical and do some reading from a section of the script. Everyone that comes out and is registered, WILL BE CAST! A list of cast assignments will be emailed to students on or before May 19th.
For students in grades 7 & 8 who do not want to be on stage but want to be part of “The Jungle Book”, we are offering Stage Craft Class during that same week. These students will be working backstage, designing the set, building set pieces, etc. It is taught by Mr. Post.
IF YOU REGISTER ON OR BEFORE MAY 2, the cost of camp is $100 per student. After May 2, it is $150 per student. The registration form is attached below.

Now accepting applications for Summer Interns to work with Mrs. Post and Mrs. Redden in “The Jungle Book”. Applicants must be in High School (ENTERING grades 10 - 12 in the Fall). If you are pursuing a Performing Arts Diploma, summer theatre counts as 40 hours of volunteer intern hours. Applications will be available at Little Theatre Friday night and then outside the school office or in the PAB beginning Monday.

Our Augustine Christian Academy teachers and staff are the best! Teacher appreciation week is May 5 - 9. We plan to bless these dedicated men and women with treats all week! Let’s show our teachers how much they mean to us. Contact ACA parent Christi Rowland at [email protected] to see how you can help or with questions.

We are continuing the finals “Opt Out” program that has been so successful in the last few years, and we are simplifying finals for those taking them. Students who are to take finals will come on the days listed below to take their final exams in whatever order they wish. They can take a study break between them or go right from one to the other all in the same classroom. Final exams will be administered in three different classrooms monitored by three of our teachers. There will be a study hall area available in the Great Room, as well as a silent study hall upstairs. We ask that students sign in at the office window when they arrive and sign out whenever they leave. There are no other scheduled sessions for finals, so students must take their finals during the times presented.

Wednesday, May 14, 2014, 8:00 am to 2:00 pm
Thursday, May 15, 2014, 8:00 am to 12:00 Noon

How may a student “Opt Out” of a final exam?
A student may choose to skip a final exam if he/she meets the following three criteria:
1. Be absent no more than two times for the semester
2. Have no outstanding work
3. Have a semester grade average of 80% or better

In Gradenet, each class will have an assignment titled “Semester Final”. If your student has met the three criteria listed above, no later than Monday May 12th the assignment will have “EXC” marked for excused from the exam. If the assignment is blank your student is required to take the exam. Please call the office if you have any questions.
