For the first time, ACA is hosting a Senior Thesis Night on Friday, May 9th. Everyone is welcome to attend, especially family and friends of the seniors! Juniors and their parents are also particularly encouraged to attend so that they can get a feel for some of the projects and their scope. Admission is FREE.

Here are some details….

All seniors in senior thesis will be presenting a multi-media presentation covering the main ideas of their project, their conclusions, and the applicability of the topic. They will then answer questions.
We will have breakout sessions going simultaneously in four rooms. People will be able to choose the presentations they attend and go from room to room for the presentations.
We will have keynote address by TWO seniors based on the comments of the Boards of Review. All seniors are preparing to be possibly chosen to be the keynote speakers.
Refreshments will be served.

Doors will open at 6:30. Keynote presentations begin at 7:00 p.m. Breakout sessions will start after the keynote addresses. They have worked long and hard on their presentations, so come and support our Class of 2014 as they present their thesis papers!

Girls entering grades 9 - 12 next fall are eligible to audition for Show Choir. Auditions will be held on Thursday, May 8, in the PAB from 3:15 – 5:00 p.m. (depending on how many girls audition, time may need to be adjusted). Information Packets are available outside the school office or in the PAB. If you have questions, please contact Gale Post at 918-852-2040.

Parents, our Lost & Found box is overflowing with uniform pieces, jackets, lunch boxes, plasticware, non-uniform clothing, etc. If your students are missing any thing, please come take a look in Lost & Found. Even if you don’t think your student is missing anything, please come and take a look in Lost & Found! There are some nice jackets and clothing pieces that are going to end up going to Goodwill when school’s out if their owners don’t come and find them.

Yes, we have summer theatre! This is our second year to host community theatre. If you are in grades 1-8 now (going into grades 2-9 in the fall) you are invited to join the Jungle party. Summer theatre is also open to students outside of ACA so invite your friends. Dates of camp are June 9-13, and will be directed by Gale Post and Choreographed by Dawn Redden. There is a Meet and Greet on Sat, May 17th, from 9-11 (for campers) and 11-12 for parents. During the meet and greet, students will meet the Directors and the Interns. They will also be taught a few measures of one of the songs in the musical and do some reading from a section of the script. Everyone that comes out and is registered, WILL BE CAST! A list of cast assignments will be emailed to students on or before May 19th. For students in grades 7 & 8 who do not want to be on stage but want to be part of “The Jungle Book”, we are offering Stage Craft Class during that same week. These students will be working backstage, designing the set, building set pieces, etc. It is taught by Mr. Post. Cost for either the performance class or the stage craft class is $150 per student. The registration form is attached below.

Now accepting applications for Summer Interns to work with Mrs. Post and Mrs. Redden in “The Jungle Book”. Applicants must be in High School (ENTERING grades 10 - 12 in the Fall). If you are pursuing a Performing Arts Diploma, summer theatre counts as 40 hours of volunteer intern hours. Applications are available outside the school office or in the PAB.

We are continuing the finals “Opt Out” program that has been so successful in the last few years, and we are simplifying finals for those taking them. Students who are to take finals will come on the days listed below to take their final exams in whatever order they wish. They can take a study break between them or go right from one to the other all in the same classroom. Final exams will be administered in three different classrooms monitored by three of our teachers. There will be a study hall area available in the Great Room, as well as a silent study hall upstairs. We ask that students sign in at the office window when they arrive and sign out whenever they leave. There are no other scheduled sessions for finals, so students must take their finals during the times presented. Students staying through the lunch hour should pack their lunch as no lunches will be available for purchase.

Wednesday, May 14, 2014, 8:00 am to 2:00 pm
Thursday, May 15, 2014, 8:00 am to 12:00 Noon

How may a student “Opt Out” of a final exam?
A student may choose to skip a final exam if he/she meets the following three criteria:
1. Be absent no more than two times for the semester
2. Have no outstanding work
3. Have a semester grade average of 80% or better

In Gradenet, each class will have an assignment titled “Semester Final”. If your student has met the three criteria listed above, no later than Monday May 12th the assignment will have “EXC” marked for excused from the exam. If the assignment is blank your student is required to take the exam. Please call the office if you have any questions.
