The Charger Newsletter

THIS FRIDAY, September 25, ACA will dismiss school (all grades) at 1:45 p.m.  Our teachers will be receiving training that afternoon about early intervention for “at risk” students.  All secondary classes will meet, but we will have an adjusted schedule (attached below).  If at all possible, parents should pick up their students by 2:00 p.m. Our extended day program will not begin until 3:45 p.m. as usual, so between 2:00 and 3:45 we will be showing a movie in the Great Room for students remaining after 2:00.  The extended day program will begin at 3:45 and families will be charged their normal fee for the time their students are here after 3:45 p.m.

Our first Salt & Light Chapel of the school year will be next Monday, September 28th.  Secondary students must wear their High Convocation uniform on Monday!  Our guest for Chapel will be Mr. Chris Davis, Senior Partner & Director of the Litigation Group at Johnson & Jones, P.C. a Tulsa based law firm.  Parents are welcome to attend!  The secondary class schedule will be slightly adjusted to allow our guest extra time in chapel.  You will find that adjusted schedule attached below.

If you have not yet done so, please have your students bring in their address labels or “opt out” forms by Friday!  Many of our Grammar School students have not yet brought them!  Those should be turned in to their classroom teacher (or House sponsor).  Letters are being sent out this week so that potential donors receive them prior to our Serve-A-Thon on October 2nd.  Thank you so much for your help with this!

ALSO, the Grammar School students will be filling shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child as part of their day of service.  We are still in need of items for the shoe boxes!  If you can donate any of the following items, please drop them off in the school office: small stuffed animals, small dolls, Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars, jump ropes, small puzzles, whistles, small soft balls, cute socks, sunglasses, crayons, pens, pencils, small tablets or coloring books, toothbrushes, bar soap, combs, washcloths, etc.  We cannot use: liquids, lotions, breakables, or food items.

The monthly order form for October is attached below. Please note that it includes Sept. 28 - 30 on the order form!  If you are ordering for the month, please turn in your order form and payment by Friday, Sept. 25th.

ALSO NOTE that the prices for Chick-fil-A will be reduced beginning September 28th.  We are changing from the Promenade Mall store to the Southroads store and they are offering us lower prices!

Next Wednesday, September 30, we will be giving the PLAN Test to all of our 10th graders.  The test will begin at 8:00 a.m. and part-time students should come at that time for the test, even if they are not ordinarily here at that time or on that day.  Students should bring their calculator (phones are not permitted - students must bring an actual calculator) for the math portion of the test.  This is a pre-ACT test that will give students an idea of what the ACT looks like and an idea of where they are academically in relation to others their age across the nation.  This test can also be used as a Reading Proficiency test for your driver’s permit.  If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Collingsworth at: [email protected]

Thursday evening, October 1st, is Augustine Christian Academy night at the Panera Bread, 5601 E 41st Street, between the hours of 4:00 & 8:00 p.m.  Print off the Panera flyer attached below and join us for some delicious food and ACA fellowship.  Panera will donate a percentage of its sales during our event hours back to ACA and the percentage is based on how many flyers are turned in when ordering.  (Flyers cannot be handed out within 50 feet of the restaurant.)  Mark it on your calendar and meet us there for dinner!

The long-awaited dvd’s of the ACA summer production of Disney’s “The Lion King” are here!  If you ordered a dvd, you can stop by the school office to pay and pick up your dvd.  The cost is $10 each and checks can be made payable to ACA.

The “Peter Pan” dvd’s are also still available in the office.  Those dvd’s cost $20 each.

We are giving the PSAT/NMSQT to our 11th graders on Wednesday, October 14th.  Preparation booklets will be distributed to each 11th grader.  The PSAT is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program.  Part-time students should plan to be here that morning to take the PSAT and all students must bring their own calculator for the math portion (phones are not allowed to be used).  Please contact the school office if you have any questions.

Our regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day that school is in session. If you need to reach someone outside of office hours, please email [email protected] .
