PARENT ORIENTATION

The Parent Orientation for parents of students in grades 6 - 12 will be held on Thursday evening, August 11th beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Your students do not need to attend!  Secondary students will have their own orientation time on the first day of school.  Parents will meet in the Great Room and will hear from Mr. Post, our Headmaster, and other speakers.  Parents will then have the opportunity to visit classrooms and meet teachers.  PLEASE make every effort to attend orientation!

SCHOOL BEGINS!

The first day of school is on August 15 beginning at 8:00 a.m.!  Please note that the first day of school is a Student Orientation Day for ALL students - including part-time students.  All students must pack their lunches the first two weeks of school. Beginning August 29th, lunches will be available to order & purchase.  Watch for the monthly lunch order form coming soon.

AFTER SCHOOL “EXTENDED DAY” PROGRAM

Extended Day and Drop-In Programs:

  • ACA has an amazing Extended Day program provided for students in KinderPrep through 8th grade. This program is a structured  curriculum based program with scheduled activities as well as shack time (we provide the snacks and drinks). Please see the attached handbook and registration form for more details or contact the director, Mrs. Williams, with questions: [email protected] .

  • We realize that not all families will choose to be a part of our Extended Day program. For these families, we have the ACA Drop-In program. This program is for use only when you are running late and will not be able to be here by 3:30. Students can use this time to work on their homework. The per-student fee is $6 if picked up between 3:30 - 4:00. An additional fee of $12 is assessed if picked up between 4:01 and 5:00. An additional fee of $6 is assessed if picked up between 5:01 and 5:30. $1 per minute will be charged if later than 5:30. Our building closes at 5:30. Please do all you can to make sure your student is picked up before Drop-In begins at 3:30.

YEARBOOK CLASS NOW AVAILABLE

Parents:  If your 9th through 12th grade student is not yet enrolled in a Friday morning class, please consider our new Yearbook course offering. We have made the decision to offer a Yearbook class (not previously listed on our class schedule) during our Friday morning “Super Class” time period. This class is being offered in addition to the Friday morning Filmmaking class. Both classes would be working toward the goal of capturing the many special moments that take place here at ACA. The Yearbook class would continue the traditional approach using still shots and printed media, and the Filmmaking class will be capturing events and stories through video and creating a DVD Year In Review.  For more information, please contact the school office or see Miss Becki or Mrs. Cathey at Parent Orientation on Thursday evening.  We look forward to hearing from you.

DISNEY’S “BEAUTY & THE BEAST”

From Our Director:

PREPARING FOR THE “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST” WORKSHOP TO BE HELD ON August 19, 3:30 – 9:00 pm

Hello potential cast members of Beauty and the Beast. I want to encourage all high school students (both part time and full time) to come out for the FREE audition workshop that will be held on FRIDAY, AUGUST 19th, 3:30 – 9:00 pm, in the PAB.  A complimentary light snack dinner will be served from 3:30 – 4:00 pm, and the workshop will start directly after dinner.  The workshop is free but you MUST register. The registration form is attached below. Please return to the school office on or before the end of the school day August 18th.

For the past few weeks I have been sharing Youtube videos that I felt would be very beneficial for potential cast and crew members. Here are the two required video clips to watch before your auditions:  The making of  “Beauty and the Beast” (London Theatre, and Broadway). https://youtu.be/cX5NALmS9aY ; https://youtu.be/iG3dVicuz1Q.

I also came across the making of “Beauty and the Beast” Singapore. It is with an American cast. The two leads, Belle and the Beast, narrate this 4 part video. They introduce all the main characters (including Chip), take us back stage to meet the costumer, see the costumes, make-up and wigs, you meet the stage manager and backstage manager, the head dance captain demonstrates choreography from Gaston’s musical number, and we hear from the Director. This video is another MUST SEE for those auditioning, but this particular video will be very helpful if you watch before our workshop. It only takes about 15 minutes to watch all four parts.  Here is the link:  https://youtu.be/BRYwO-6b_OA

AUDITION DATES & TIMES:  Students may audition on Sunday, August 21st at 2:00 pm or on Monday, August 22nd, at 3:30 pm in the PAB.

REQUIRED PARENT MEETING:  Parents of potential cast members MUST attend one of the two offered parent meetings prior to your child auditioning: The first meeting will be held Friday, August 19th, 8:30 pm, in the PAB (following the audition workshop)  and the second meeting will be held Sunday, August 21st, at 5:00 pm, in the PAB (following the first auditions). IF your child will be auditioning on Sunday, parents need to attend the Friday meeting. If your child will be auditioning on Monday, you can attend the Sunday meeting.

AUDITIONS FOR CHIP AND THE TEACUPS -  SATURDAY, AUGUST 20th

Students in grades 3 - 6 are invited to audition for either CHIP (Mrs. Potts son), or one of the  TEACUPS (girls only).  Auditions for the TEACUPS will be held from 9:00 am - 10:30 am.  Auditions for CHIP are 10:45 – Noon. There is an audition form attached below. Please complete and return to the school office.

Again, I encourage ALL HIGH SCHOOL students to attend the workshop and encourage all our younger students grades 3 - 6 to come out for Chip and the Teacups.

UNIFORM RE-SALE SHOP

If your student needs uniform items for the coming school year, please check out the gently used uniforms for sale in the school lobby before you go to C & J Uniforms for new items.  We have polo shirts, oxford shirts, slacks, skirts, blazers, fleece jackets, and even some spirit wear shirts!  These will be available only until Friday, August 12th.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

School supplies for K4 - 5th Grade are included in your tuition costs for 2016-2017.  So are your student’s art fees, if they are in K4 - 5th grade!  The enrollment contract mentions it, but you may not have noticed it on there.  Secondary students must still purchase their school supplies.  We have made a change to the secondary supply list: students in high school level math classes must have a TI-83 Plus or TI-84 Plus calculator. The updated secondary school supply list is attached below.  Please remember that not everything on the secondary supply list is required for every class.

MOMS BREAKFAST & FELLOWSHIP

Join the ACA Hen House for breakfast at Mimi’s Cafe on Saturday, August 27, at 9:00 a.m.  All ACA moms are invited - those new to ACA and those returning to ACA.  This is a great way to start off the school year - meet other ACA mothers, learn more about the Hen House, and enjoy a bit of fellowship over breakfast!  For more information, contact Mrs. Beth Minnich at 918-640-3246 or call the school office.
