The Charger Newsletter

What would ACA be without the people God has brought together in this unique place?  Do you have a story about your time here at ACA that you feel expresses your reason for being at ACA?  We would like to provide a public way to share with each other the stories of relationships and encounters at ACA that have made a positive impact on our lives.  If you have a story to share, we would love your permission to share your story (or a portion of that story) on our official ACA website. Please consider sending us a story or two.  Contact Mr. Ahrens for more information or to submit a story: [email protected]

The Class of 2019 is sponsoring the annual Chili Night & Dessert Auction on Friday, October 12, at 6:00 p.m.  You can get a bottomless bowl of chili and a beverage for only $7.00! Or you can get just one bowl of chili with a beverage for $5.00.  Hot dogs will also be available for only $2.00 each! Traditional toppings are included!

Do you have a favorite chili recipe?  Is your chili gone first when you’re tailgating?  Enter your chili in the Chili Cook-off!!! We need entries!  Parents, teachers, and students are welcome to enter! You can make a traditional chili, meatless chili, deer chili, chicken chili, spicy, not-so-spicy, whatever your best recipe is - you should enter it!  There will be prizes and bragging rights for the winning chili! To enter the chili contest, please text Mrs. Rowland, senior sponsor, your name and what type of chili you are bringing: 918-557-0344.

After everyone has eaten their fill of chili and/or hot dogs, there will be a dessert auction.  The seniors will be providing fabulous desserts for the auction and you can bid on the ones that look the most delicious to you!  Take them home or eat them there… your choice! You won’t want to miss this fun event!

Friday, October 26th is the ACA Trivia Night event and it will be held at Highland Park Christian Church. This year, we have a Harvest theme and the price of entry will be $5.00 worth of canned or dry goods per person. You may also make a greater donation, if you wish, as the food will be going to feed the needy and homeless this Thanksgiving in cooperation with Highland Park Christian Church and Vision Family Ministries.

The evening will be a great opportunity to introduce your friends to ACA. There will be no fundraising ASK as we simply wish to expand our exposure to more families. So, invite your church friends and other families who need to hear about our amazing school. Put together a team of 8, or join a team when you arrive.  Students in high school are welcome to attend and be part of your team.  Please call the office to register your team of 8 and reserve a table.  Registered teams may decorate their tables and even wear costumes! Doors open at 6:00 and the Trivia fun starts promptly at 6:30 and will go until 8:30.  Mark it on your calendars and plan for a very fun evening. (Sorry, but there will not be child care available.)

If you would be willing to volunteer to assist us with set-up and tear-down, or with securing fun snack food donations for the evening, please reach out to Mr. Ahrens at [email protected]

4th Annual FAFSA Night - THIS Friday, October 5th from 6:00 - 8:00pm. This is a FREE event offered by ACA and NSU-BA. Financial aid specialist, Bobbi McKinney, will be with us again to help interested senior families complete their FAFSA. Please come with your tax information from this past spring. If you would like to take advantage of this great opportunity, please have both your student and parent FSA IDs already created a few days before the event. You can’t complete the FAFSA without them. PSAT - Saturday, October 13th, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. This is the test that determines National Merit standing when taken during a student’s junior year. Students have already signed up to take the test, so if you have a student taking the PSAT, make sure they have picked up a study guide from Ms. Becki in the office. Then take some time to go through it with them! Your student can also study for it on the College Board website at:

Chad Cargill ACT Prep Class - Tuesday, November 6th, 8:30 - 11:30 am. If you want your student to learn some great ACT test strategies and not have to pay a ton for them, make it a point to sign them up to attend this class. It is actually fun and engaging and they will walk away with some great strategies to help them score higher on their future ACTs. If they have never taken the ACT, or have taken it five times, this will be a helpful class to them. And if they have taken the class before, they can benefit from taking it again as they will pick up on things that they may have missed the first time. The class fee is $35/person - and it is well worth the price. Mr. Cargill will also have his prep book available to purchase for $20 for those interested in that. It is not necessary to purchase his book, but if you would like all of his insight, you may want to have it. Students will walk away with a lot of handouts from the class itself. This class is open to the public, so please tell your friends that their students are welcome to participate as well. This is a great opportunity for homeschooling families, so please pass this information on to them. If you would like to sign up your student, please contact Ms. Becki in the ACA office. The office phone number is 918-832-4600.

Because of the leadership experiences ACA students have, this is a scholarship that could be reachable for them! The cost to attend this conference is $20/student, and the deadline to sign-up is November 1st. Students will get to experience all the great leadership activities, receive an event t-shirt, and lunch will be provided. Please respond or come by Mrs. Collingsworth’s office to let her know if your student wants to attend. This will be a fun day for everyone!!

Next week, House sponsors will be asking 8 - 11th grade students to complete the My College Options questionnaire during House time.  This is a service offered free through, a college planning service, offering assistance to students, parents, high schools, counselors, and teachers nationwide. It is designed to assist high school students in exploring a wide range of post-secondary opportunities, with special emphasis on the college search process.  We wanted to let parents know that this questionnaire will be asking students for their name, address, email address, birthdate, gender, graduation year, and grade average. Then they will be asked questions about what types of programs, activities, future careers, etc… that they may be looking for in a college or university.  This is very typical of college planning services as it gives them the information they need to match students with appropriate colleges. When students fill out their personal information for standardized tests, they will give the same information on those forms, so this is nothing new or different. However, we wanted to give you the opportunity for your student to opt-out of this questionnaire, if you would choose for them to do that.  If you have any questions about the questionnaire, please let Mrs. Collingsworth know. If you would like to learn more about MyCollegeOptions, go to:

We need to ask that our ACA families not park in the Akdar Shriner’s parking lots. On Friday evening, we were informed that we no longer have permission to park in either of the Shriner parking lots. It is our desire to reconcile this with their leadership, and we will work to do so; but, in the meantime, we must ask that you use the ACA parking lot for all activities until we are able to resolve their concerns. There may also be times when the Vision Family Ministries parking lot is unavailable for use, and we will post signage if we are unable to use that parking during events. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The school office is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 to 5:00.  If you need to reach someone outside of office hours, please email [email protected] .
