TRIVIA NIGHT!

THIS FRIDAY, October 26th is the ACA Trivia Night event and it will be held at Highland Park Christian Church (on 31st St. between Sheridan & Yale). This year, we have a Harvest theme and the price of entry will be $5.00 worth of canned or dry goods per person. You may also make a greater donation, if you wish, as the food will be going to feed the needy and homeless this Thanksgiving in cooperation with Highland Park Christian Church and Vision Family Ministries.

The evening will be a great opportunity to introduce your friends to ACA. There will be no fundraising as we simply wish to expand our exposure to more families. So, invite your church friends and other families who need to hear about our amazing school. There is a flyer attached below to share with your friends.  Put together a team of 8, or join a team when you arrive.  Students in high school are welcome to attend and be part of your team.  Please call the office to register your team of 8 and reserve a table.  Registered teams may decorate their tables and even wear costumes!  Doors open at 6:00 and the Trivia fun starts promptly at 6:30.  We should be finished at about 8:30. Mark it on your calendars and plan for a very fun evening.  (Sorry, but there will not be child care available.)

RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN’S “CINDERELLA”

SALT & LIGHT SECONDARY CHAPEL

Next Monday, October 29th, is our Salt & Light Chapel for our secondary students. Our guest will be the newest addition to the ACA Board of Governors, Pastor Bill Davis. Pastor Davis is a motivational speaker and a strong advocate for business ownership. Pastor Bill teaches Biblical wealth principles and has been active in ministry, the insurance industry, and real estate.  Most recently, in 2015, he and his wife launched Davis & Davis Investments, a conglomerate of real estate businesses dedicated to assisting with the housing needs of Tulsans. Pastors Bill and Lisa Davis serve the Tulsa community through their outreach at Vision Family Ministries, located right next door to ACA. Please join us in welcoming Pastor Davis to the ACA Board of Governors and join us for chapel to hear his heart.

The class schedule will be adjusted to allow our guest more time in chapel. Please see the adjusted class schedule attached below. Students must wear their High Convocation uniform on Monday!  Parents are welcome to attend. Chapel begins promptly at 9:50 and will run until 10:50 with a Q&A segment at the end.

What would ACA be without the people God has brought together in this unique place?  Do you have a story about your time here at ACA that you feel expresses your reason for being at ACA?  We would like to provide a public way to share with each other the stories of relationships and encounters at ACA that have made a positive impact on our lives.  If you have a story to share, we would love your permission to share your story (or a portion of that story) on our official ACA website. ACT PREP CLASS

Chad Cargill ACT Prep Class - Tuesday, November 6th, 8:30 - 11:30 am. If you want your student to learn some great ACT test strategies and not have to pay a ton for them, make it a point to sign them up to attend this class. It is actually fun and engaging and they will walk away with some great strategies to help them score higher on their future ACTs. If they have never taken the ACT, or have taken it five times, this will be a helpful class to them. And if they have taken the class before, they can benefit from taking it again as they will pick up on things that they may have missed the first time. The class fee is $35/person - and it is well worth the price. Mr. Cargill will also have his prep book available to purchase for $20 for those interested in that. It is not necessary to purchase his book, but if you would like all of his insight, you may want to have it. Students will walk away with a lot of handouts from the class itself. This class is open to the public, so please tell your friends that their students are welcome to participate as well. This is a great opportunity for homeschooling families, so please pass this information on to them. If you would like to sign up your student, please contact Ms. Becki in the ACA office. NSU LEADERSHIP CLASS

PLC (President’s Leadership Class) Conference at NSU Tahlequah - Thursday, November 8th. Northeastern State University’s PLC class will be hosting a leadership conference for area high school juniors and seniors on their Tahlequah campus. This is a full day of leadership activities, led by the PLC Freshman Class, covering lessons from the book “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens” by Sean Covey. It is also an opportunity to learn about the PLC scholarship, which is a full-ride scholarship, plus a stipend. It is a tremendous scholarship!! Because of the leadership experiences ACA students have, this is a scholarship that could be reachable for them! The cost to attend this conference is $20/student, and the deadline to sign-up is November 1st. Students will get to experience all the great leadership activities, receive an event t-shirt, and lunch will be provided. Please respond or come by Mrs. Collingsworth’s office to let her know if your student wants to attend. This will be a fun day for everyone!!

 



YEARBOOKS NOW ON SALE

The 2018-2019 ACA yearbook is on sale now!  It can only be ordered online at www.treering.com (click on the “Buy Yearbook” button).  If you have ordered one in the past couple of years, you can log-in using your existing password and account.  If you have never ordered an ACA yearbook before, you will need to put in the following code to set up your account: 1014725638033905  You will have to select your student’s teacher, so secondary students should list their House Sponsor in that area.  Each yearbook comes with two free pages that you can personalize with your own pictures!  (You can purchase additional pages to personalize, if you want/need more than two.)  For the best price - order your yearbook by October 31st and receive 10% off!  And you can order one for each student or one for the family.  Call the school office if you have any questions.

 

 

NEW STUDENT NEWSPAPER

Lizzy Place, the editor of our new student-led newspaper, called Ravenwing, is looking for student graphic designers and writers to round out her team. The paper will be published once each month, and the staff will meet weekly to write articles and format the paper.  If your student would be interested, they are encouraged to check out one of the posters displayed around the school advertising the new paper and giving information about joining the team.  

 

 

SPIRIT WEAR FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

We would like to introduce our All-School Spirit Wear shirts for this year, available for students, parents, siblings, grandparents, etc.  Shirts are in Navy with “Augustine” on the front and “In luce tua, lucem videmus.” (Psalm 39:9 “In Thy light, we see light.”) in white lettering on the back. We believe that the only way to know anything of value is to first know Christ. We want to catch people’s attention so that they will be curious enough to ask you about your t-shirt. Take that opportunity to share about your time with us at this amazing little school. See the flier attached below for pricing and sizing options.  Order form and payment is due November 1st.



EXPLORE TEST

This Thursday, October 25th, we will be giving the EXPLORE Test to all of our 8th graders and 9th graders new to ACA.  This is the test that we use to determine 8th grade reading proficiency for a student’s driver’s permit.  Students taking the test are excused from their classes that morning to take the test.  Please contact Mrs. Collingsworth if you have any questions: [email protected]

LITTLE THEATRE

Our first Little Theatre of the season will be held on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, AT 7:00 p.m., in the Great Room of ACA. This is going to be quite a night with a great line-up of talent. Performing will be LUMINIS (our own high school Pentatonix), Grades 3-5 and Grade 6 Choirs (talk about young talent coming up…..you are going to be really, really surprised when you hear these two choirs perform), the Musical Theatre class will perform a ballet number to a hymn, and then we will give you a “sneak peek” from our upcoming musical, “Cinderella”.  Tickets to LITTLE THEATRE are only $3 per person and can only be purchased at the door. Our Concession Stand will be open from 6:15 - 7:15 that evening. We will have soft drinks, bottled water, and candy for $1 and quarter pound hot dogs (plain) - for $2 or add Chili or grated Cheese for an additional $.50 each per item. We will also have Walking Tacos for $2 each. BUT, the early bird gets the worm. When the hot dogs and walking tacos are gone…they are gone! We will only have a limited amount of each to sell. Mark your calendar and invite your family and friends. You WILL NOT be disappointed!




THANKSGIVING BREAK INFORMATION

More than just “harvest time”, Thanksgiving is an important national day of remembering the source of our continued blessings, and a time to join together with family and friends to thank our Gracious God for His grace and provisions. Our Thanksgiving holiday break will be a little longer this year.  We have added the Monday after Thanksgiving, November 26th, to allow more of our families, including teachers, additional travel time to return from visiting relatives and celebrating together. We have counted our school days, and found them sufficient to allow for this added time off from school.  Classes will resume on Tuesday, November 27th. Because this is a change, we wanted you to have as much notice as possible.  We hope you will all have a blessed time of giving thanks and enjoying family.




NOVEMBER LUNCH ORDERS

The monthly lunch order form for November is attached below and is also available in the school office.  If you are ordering for the month, please bring your order form and payment to the school office by Friday, November 2nd.  Students may still order lunches each morning - this order form is for your convenience.




“SEUSSICAL, JR.” DVD’S

The dvd’s of our summer production of “Seussical, Jr.” are now available in the school office!  If you ordered a dvd, you can pick it up during regular office hours… they are only $10 each!



PARKING INFORMATION

We need to ask that our ACA families not park in the Akdar Shriner’s parking lots. On Friday evening, we were informed that we no longer have permission to park in either of the Shriner parking lots. It is our desire to reconcile this with their leadership, and we will work to do so; but, in the meantime, we must ask that you use the ACA parking lot for all activities until we are able to resolve their concerns. There may also be times when the Vision Family Ministries parking lot is unavailable for use, and we will post signage if we are unable to use that parking during events. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
